What is a Workstation Crane?

While workstation cranes share some common components with other types of cranes, there are several key features that set them apart:

  • Compact Size and Mobility: Workstation cranes are typically smaller and more maneuverable than traditional overhead bridge cranes, making them ideal for confined spaces and frequent repositioning within a workspace.
  • Adjustable Boom or Arm: Many workstation cranes feature adjustable booms or arms, allowing for greater flexibility in positioning the load and accommodating various work tasks.
  • Ergonomic Design: Workstation cranes are often designed with ergonomics in mind, featuring user-friendly controls, easy access to the load, and features that reduce strain on operators.
  • Specialized Features: Some workstation cranes may have specialized features such as built-in scales, remote controls, or safety interlocks, tailored to specific applications or industries.

These components, along with their compact size and focus on efficiency, make workstation cranes well-suited for a wide range of industrial tasks in settings where flexibility and ease of use are essential.

Workstation Bridge Cranes vs. Overhead Bridge Cranes

While both workstation bridge cranes and traditional bridge cranes serve the purpose of lifting and moving heavy loads, they offer distinct advantages tailored to specific applications.

Workstation Bridge Crane Overhead Bridge Crane
Application Ideal for smaller-scale operations, specific workstations, and frequent use. Better suited for larger-scale material handling, spanning entire bays or buildings.
Mobility More maneuverable and can be easily repositioned within a workspace. Typically less mobile and require more planning for relocation.
Customization Highly customizable to fit specific needs and workspaces. More standardized in design, with limited customization options.
Ease of Use Designed for frequent use by multiple workers, with intuitive controls. May require more specialized training and operation.
Capacity Generally lower capacity cranes, suitable for moderate loads. Higher lifting capacity, ideal for handling heavier loads.

Overhead Workstation Bridge Cranes

Enclosed track workstation bridge cranes are the perfect solution for covering a rectangular work area. They are designed for easy movement and lead the industry in their ability to spot handle on the X and Y axis. Gorbel workstation bridge cranes can handle applications ranging from 150 pounds to 4,000 pounds with bridge lengths up to 34 feet and runway lengths up to 124 feet. (longer bridge lengths and runway lengths available upon request).

Multiple Gorbel Workstation Bridge Cranes

Gorbel workstation bridge cranes are available in two styles: Free Standing and Ceiling Mounted. Systems can also be designed as a combination of the two.

Ceiling mounted systems are available in steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel constructions and allow operators to freely move loads without interfering with floor traffic. They do, however, require the building to have an adequate overhead ceiling structure so the system can be safely mounted.

Free standing workstation systems, on the other hand, are independent of the building and do not put any stress on your ceiling structure. This means that free standing workstation cranes can be located wherever you need them and can also be easily relocated. Like the ceiling mounted systems, free standing systems are available in steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel constructions.

Gorbel workstation bridge cranes are the perfect solution for anyone focused on safety and productivity. According to an independent study conducted by the Rochester Institute of Technology – Ergonomics Department, operators using Gorbel workstation bridge cranes were able to increase productivity by up to 28% when compared to a traditional I-beam jib crane.

Gorbel Monorail Systems

A Gorbel monorail system is the perfect solution for both the simplest and most complex lifting and transport applications. Gorbel monorails can be as simple as a single straight track used to lift and moves parts along a single axis, or they can be customized to transport parts throughout entire facilities. The modular design of Gorbel monorail systems allows for free standing track, ceiling mounted track, monorail curves, switches, and interlock transfers to all be used in a single system. Gorbel monorail systems are available in capacities ranging from 150 to 4,000 pounds.

Gorbel monorail systems can also be used as parts in more complex workstation crane systems. Using monorail curves, switches, and interlock transfers, custom monorail systems can handle extremely sophisticated lifting and transfer applications from one workstation to another. Custom monorail systems make Gorbel workstation cranes adaptable. Whether you are planning for workstation expansion, moving a workstation, creating a specialized solution, or updating an existing solution, Gorbel's modular design offers industry leading adaptability and customizability.
