Emergency Crane Service for Motor Coupling
Problem: Customer reported that their hoist had dropped their coil lifter and a coil. We had found the coupling between the motor and gearbox had been neglected from previous maintenance company and had not been lubed in a long time. Lack of lubrication caused the steel on steel coupling to wear the couplings teeth off and in doing so caused the hoist to no longer have a motor or hoist brake. Since this hoist did not have a load brake and used dynamic braking as its second means of braking, there was nothing left to hold the load.
Solution: We replaced the couple and put the customer on a quarterly PM schedule to make sure their cranes are being properly lubricated. Also, we are doing yearly coupling inspections to ensure this does not happen to any of their cranes.
End Result: After calling for the emergency crane service the customer was able to get their crane repaired quickly. This minimized down time and maximized production.
